General information about your holiday in Tenerife
Tenerife is the largest of the Canarias Isles called by the locals " Islas Canarias" and measures 2034sq.km . It is approx. 50km. wide and 80km. long. Geographically it belongs to Africa but politically to Spain and is ruled by the Schengen agreement. This means that you won't need a visa or vaccinations. Tenerife is considered a small continent due to its geographical diversity which leads to many different landscapes and micro climates. During the winter you can drive into the mountains in the morning and have a snowball fight and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon. This, you'll only find in Tenerife. The zones between the different landscapes reach from desert to lush paradise green. This only happens in Tenerife. When Alexander Von Humboldt saw La Orotava valley, which is near Puerto de la Cruz, he described it as the most wonderful valley in the world. This was obviously in a time that tourism was unheard of in the valley and it was a lot less cultivated

The weather in Tenerife is very diversified due to a lot of micro climates. In the north, because of the higher altitudes, it can get quite damp when the trade winds blow in from the Atlantic. This will turn into drizzle which can feel great after a long hot summer's day but after a couple of hours the sun will break through the clouds again or at worst, the next day. The south in comparison is extremely dry, especially in the less cultivated areas, except cacti, that are very well adapted to these conditions. There is so little rain in the south that it is easier to win the lottery then have a day's rain to spoil your holiday.

Tenerife Holiday in the North

Main Tourist area
It all happens in and around Puerto de la Cruz. A lot of German and Austrian tourists as well as Brits spend their time here and a lot of pensioners will stay in the winter. Those who are looking for some action, they will look for a holiday house or apartment in Puerto de la Cruz.

Quiet but accesible
Those who would like to be in the central but near Puerto, we have objects to let in El Sauzal and La Matanza., two very well looked after towns.

Tranquil areas in the north of Tenerife
Those who would prefer it to be really quiet should look for our objects further away from Puerto in the more isolated areas. We have beautiful farmhouses ( finca's) near Icod de los Vinos. There are many foreigners who live here and own holiday objects that they are letting out. Nearly all our owners are multilingual and will be able to give you more info and tips. The mountain area of El Tanque is a great starting point for trekkers. We have made sure that central heating is provided in the objects that are positioned higher up the mountain. Objects that are offered to us without this, will not appear on our books.

Teneriffa Holiday in the South

Main Tourist area
It is "pure" sun in the south. The main tourist areas are Las Americas and Los Christianos, of which the last one is the most popular among the Brits. he German tourists go rather to Las Americas. You should take it into account when you do not prefer English kitchen. Particular in demand are the objects that have direct beach access. By example the below object is very popular that is why It is wise to book early an apartment in Playa de la Americas to avoid disappointment.

Quiet but accessible
We advise you to rent one of many affordable farmhouses/holiday houses ( fincas) that lie just outside the town . For example the town of Chayofa is very clean and easily reached from the main tourist centre. Having in mind reasonably priced choice, we advise you to have a look at holiday lets in Candelaria as well. The town is not as popular with the tourists, which we find unjust.

Tranquil areas in the south of Tenerife
Here we can really recommend to rent one of our many holiday fincas as the land in the main resorts is too expensive and so the accommodation relatively small. As these fincas are out of town and often far away from anything else, we advise you to rent a car.

Fincas and holdays in the mountains

When you book one of our holiday objects in the mountains in winter, please make sure that you pack enough warm clothes as it can be really chilly. When it is a cloudy day what is very rare, you'll need a long sleeved T-shirt and something thicker for the evening. All our accommodations in the mountains have central heating. During the day - also in winter - you can go out in T-shirt as long as the sun is shining or as long as you will get accustomed to cold in our part of Europe.
