El Médano - Tenerife for surfers - a surfing paradise on sunny south

El Médano is a nice little town in the south of Tenerife.  Despite the fact that it was not spoiled by ugly buildings of the sixties, the tourist towns of Playa de las Americas and Los Christianos have more tourists than El Medano. It is not understandable because directly at El Medano, the longest natural sand beach of the island is located of length over 3 km. Besides,  El Médano is  a place where the sun almost always shines, even more than in Playa Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
 

 El Médano is a very popular place where local people spend their summer vacation and many of them have their own holiday apartment.

You’ll also find  some excellent restaurants and a variety of shops. In the harbour  and in the village itself, you can still buy fresh fish which is very cheap. At the town square, a market is held every weekend and it won´t be necessary to rent a car as El Medano offers everything you need for a wonderful holiday next to the beach.

El Médano is also worldwide known as a surfing paradise.  The Surfing World Cup and many other competitions have taken place here. The reason is simple; a steady wind almost always blows in El Médano, which is pleasant and makes hot days more bearable.
