Icod de los Vinos - the village with Tenerife landmark: The Dragon Tree

Icod de Los Vinos is a small town, some15 km from Puerto de la Cruz, on the northern  coast of the island. Here you can visit El Drago Milenario, the ancient Dragon Tree, one the main symbols of  Tenerife. It is said to be more than  thousand years old but its exact age is not known and it is often described as the oldest tree in the world. The roots cover a diameter of 6 m. Icod de los Vinos is surrounded by vineyards as its name already says and is well known for its excellent wines because of the favourable weather conditions. A car is not necessary as the little town offers a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. If you like to be among the local people, this is the right place for you  as the most of the tourists only come here as daytrippers.
