Puerto Santiago - Tenerife

Puerto de Santiago is a part of the neighbouring village of Los Gigantes too.The village has changed slowly from fishing village to tourist resort , this can be seen by the number of apartments that have been built. Nevertheless, the place has, in contrast to the main tourist areas like Los Cristianos, a relaxed and quiet character. Climate wise, it is perfect as it is on the sunshine western coast of Tenerife. You can count on more hours of sun here than in the south. This stays here together with the trade wind which blows over  the island from a north-east direction The clouds that are formed get stuck on the western coast then simply hang against Teide mountains. This is the reason why the western coast is almost always cloudless.
The lack of a motorway junction makes it a bit more difficult to reach the motorway as you first have to drive through some country lanes to get there. Local people and  tourists can see it as an advantage as it makes the area quieter.The highlight of the village is the wonderful black sandy beach and the beautiful promenade. It brings fun to stroll through the village.
