Puerto de la Cruz - the metropolis of tourism in the north of Tenerife
Puerto de la Cruz is the most famous tourist city in the north of Tenerife. It has just over 30.000 inhabitants and is located just below Orotava valley. There is a beautiful beach promenade which was modernised and completed in 2005. There are also numerous possibilities to sunbath, restaurants, souvenir shops as well as all kinds of other shops. You'll find restaurants and supermarkets spread out over the town. Puerto is well known for its fresh water swimming complex called Lago Martianez which was built by the famous artist Cesar Manrique.
The chapel of San Telmo is a well known site and was built in 1626 by local sailors. It has a Sunday service in.
The world famous zoological garden of Loro Parque offers a great variety out of the animal world and a wonderful flora of the island. In particular the Orca, dolphin, parrot and sealion shows should not be missed. The dolpin scenes in ´´Hitchhikers guide to the universe´´ were filmed here.
Not to be missed is Plaza del Charco. This beautiful square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants and from here you can walk into the charming old part of the town.
